For anyone who has read this far, consider mentoring someone else here (or more) ... some people don't even know where to start with their cameras and you could be the change they need in their lives. Even the smallest bit of knowledge can be passed on and you can create your mentorship in many different ways. Imagine the feeling of taking someone to their next level, paying forward the knowledge you've received and watching someone blossom with enthusiasm and accomplishment!

Final Plus Post - Beyond the Blur
For some of us, the Beyond the Blur G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers by Alex Lapidus and Heiko Mahr just never ends... But as Alex and Heiko are preparing to lead another group of photographers into Blurryland, I finally must try to summarize - reluctantly, because in my mind I am still exploring, thinking, wondering...
Last fall, I was fortunate to join an amazingly talented group of photographers for a wild ride through art history. Like the first Blur mentorship, this one once again opened doors to worlds I didn't know exist. It was expertly designed as a journey from Impressionism and Romanticism all the way to Contemporary Art. In between, we explored Symbolism and Cubism, delved into Abstract Expressionism and Futurism, then added a dose of Pop Art and Wabi Sabi. Oh and did I mention Dadaism?!
But, most of all, we each took a journey into our own, inner world of ideas and emotions, and learned new ways to express ourselves, cameras in hand, in the various 'languages' we were given. We got together for Museum Days around the world, we exchanged and acquired different ways of viewing art - everyone else's and our own. We developed an appreciation of other ways of seeing the world.
For me, once again, the results were unexpected and took my work in new directions. During the first Blur mentorship last summer, I discovered Multiple Exposures. As I continued playing with that technique last year, my images got ever more complex and in some ways, confusing to myself. In Beyond the Blur I discovered the concept of Reductionism in art, first through the work of Rothko, then by starting to practice, in very small steps, my own version of it. It remains a continuous journey with a worthwhile destination - trying to find and focus on what in Blurryland, and often times in life, is almost always out of focus - the essence of a scene.
