Camera Basics: Beyond Automatic

Well, gang, we've heard back from almost everyone––so let's get started!
We're so excited!
We have some organizing steps before we can get fully underway:
0. For all posts and your comments below posts, please copy the hashtag for your group to a local file and paste it into your posts and comments. At least for a couple of weeks, until the mentors and assistants get used to who is in what group. Mentees, the assistants will be using a hashtag as well, but not the mentors. Hashtags are: #CBBAmain for the MAIN group, #CBBAaud for those AUDITING and #CBBAcrew for the assistants.
1. ACCEPT the "Camera Basics: Beyond Automatic" invite below -- otherwise you will be left out of the communication to everyone. We will use this CBBA Community for all communication. When you join the community, please make sure that your notifications are turned ON for the group (you will find it above the community image––the little "bell" icon). We also recommend checking in once per day, to be there for your group and offer feedback. Though, we recognize that life gets in the way, remember that interactivity is key and you will get out of it what you put into it, just do your best. It is a great group we have, so we know you will. Make your first post there by writing a little something about yourself in the "Introduce Yourself" section in the sidebar of community.
2. We will be posting to the CBBA Community sometime on [Sundays so that the lessons and assignments will be available on each Monday for the four weeks of the workshop. You should reply to that weekly lesson post at least to say that you've read it.
3. CREATE an album specifically for this workshop. Name the album ––> Camera Basics: Beyond Automatic –– (your full name) <––. Make this album NON-PUBLIC, but share it only to the CB:BA Community so that others in the group can see it and comment during the time. ADD to this album one image that you have already taken, title it (caption it) "My favorite photograph, pre-mentorship" (follow instructions exactly gang; this is also a test … ;o)). –– You will be adding to this album the work that you do throughout the time of the workshop.
4. If you are asked to post in the comments section a link to a specific image for a mentor or helper to take a look at, the following is the right method to use:

Click on the photographer's image, right click on the image in the lightbox, click on "Open image in new tab" [wording may be different for different browsers, e.g. in Firefox it is "View image"], copy the URL at the top of that tab in the address bar and paste it in the comments section. Test this for yourself right now: After you add your favorite "pre-mentorship" image to your new album, gather the link for it per these instructions and put that below in the comments section. (NOTE: your link should have a "googleusercontent" within the first phrase of the link and most will end in ".jpg".)
5. As we have mentioned before (and will most likely drone on throughout … ;o)) interaction is key to the workability of this. If the best comment you can come up with is "this is interesting" or "good work", that is completely OK to do and is better than saying nothing––however, you will learn much more when you can identify, and express, what you feel works or doesn't on someone else's assignment entries based on the lessons that we give out each week. Not commenting at all for a considerable period will get you dropped from the group. Let's be a supportive gang!
6. Please do not publicly post anything from this G+ community outside of the community. Shares to yourself, for reference, are permitted, however, copying and pasting anything that you receive within the community is not. You will not be able to plus-mention, i.e. tag, anyone other than the members of this community to any of our posts. This is a private group, and it must remain so for the comfort of all in their learning adventure. Thank you!
7. We love all of the banter and play that can happen in a comment thread, and encourage it wholeheartedly for all the lessons and throughout the coming weeks. That said, for this post only please comment here with the numbers of each item in this list, which acknowledges that you have read, or done, each step and include in your comment the link to the album you have created specifically for this workshop (with your first image included) and the link to that first image as per 4 above. This will be the only time that we will ask you to be so muzzled during this workshop –– it will help us to go through and see how many of you are receiving your notifications and if all the instructions are clear. If you have any questions, it is OK to comment with that as well -- the first person to answer another's question besides us gets kudos points! ;oD. For the remainder of the workshop and its posts, please feel free to banter, cajole, back-pat and otherwise be your witty and playful selves -- this is supposed to be fun!
8. The PLUS post! -- each week you will be creating a special post entitled, PLUS post! There will be a separate category available in the sidebar of the community specifically for "PLUS posts", and only "PLUS posts". Please do not put anything else there, to make it easier for the mentors and helpers to find them. The PLUS post! can be part of your album entries for that week, in addition to the assignment entries, or separate and posted publicly, it's up to you. In this post you will write anything positive about your experience for the week; anything you've learned (or just have a firmer viewpoint about). You can include your favorite accomplishment, post your work and why you were happy to have created it or just tell others about anything you felt you gained in the process for that week. Keep it positive. *This is important* to this workshop, as it will "set" any concepts you've developed along the way (explaining things always makes one pay a bit more attention and notice the details.) You may share this publicly, if you like, and it's a very good thing to do, if you post publicly already. If you do share it publicly, it would be great if you would mention the G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers in your post––this encourages others to participate as mentors or offer their help to others in this program.

For those auditing, we are always aware of your presence and appreciate your being along for the ride! Do take the time to read our comments to those in the Main group, however, as they often contain valuable information that can further your progress in this workshop. Those auditing are expected to fulfill all the assignments and work along with the group––"lurkers" will be removed from this workshop. Don't forget that we have an entire team of CB:BA helpers that are here for you!

Don't ever hesitate to ask questions. Ever. This is one crazy supportive crowd, and this is your safety zone. Take full advantage of the opportunity to experiment, learn and grow surrounded by the Love of this amazing crew.
Don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Shoot subjects you've never shot before. Shoot from a new perspective (i.e., get down on the ground and play around.) Explore new locations when you can.
To the extent that your schedule allows, share the love with your fellow participants. Make an effort to review their private mentorship albums and comment on their work. Some incredible discussions will result, I promise.
Try to begin each weekly assignment as soon as time allows. Do your best to avoid getting a late start. Effective time management will make you a happier mentorship camper. Trust me on this one.
If you find yourself in a pickle of any kind ––confused, uninspired, having time management issues–– give us a shout out, and we'll jump to your rescue. We've all been there, done that. We are resources, use us.
