For anyone who has read this far, consider mentoring someone else here (or more) ... some people don't even know where to start with their cameras and you could be the change they need in their lives. Even the smallest bit of knowledge can be passed on and you can create your mentorship in many different ways. Imagine the feeling of taking someone to their next level, paying forward the knowledge you've received and watching someone blossom with enthusiasm and accomplishment!

For the past 8 weeks I have been helping out with the Mentorship program "Blurs and Unsharp Photography: Guided Play" mentored by Alex Lapidus. They did allow me to play along with them, woohoo! What an amazing journey to open our eyes to the power of unsharp photography in all of it's forms.
Some of my favorite artists of all time were the impressionists. The way they were able to portray a sense of time and emotion with their soft brush strokes was very powerful. This mentorship has showed us the way to capture some of that power and emotion in our photographs. I had no idea there were so many types and styles of blurs and unsharp photography, but we explored multiple possibilities each week. Now we have an amazing toolbox available of things to experiment and play with when we want to portray such scenes. I'm so glad that this mentorship was called "guided play" since that is exactly what it was - play time. No feeling of pressure or rules, just go out and have some fun. And at the end of the week, it was amazing how much we learned from that play and experimentation. This was just the very beginning of a new and blurry journey of creativity and inspiration!
Alex Lapidus is a master of the blur and inspired us at every turn along the way with expert guidance and a nudge or extra encouragement for those that were having a hard time. It was a privilege to be on the helping team of this great group. You were all a fabulous group that produced amazing work every week. At the beginning, we wondered if we were asking for too much from everyone, but Alex insisted that we won't know until we ask them. That is the sign of an inspiring leader! Thanks so much for all of your hard work and sleepless nights making sure no student was left behind. (Be sure to check out Alex Lapidus's page to see a sampling of work from everyone in the group. He will share the final album from each person over the next couple of weeks.)
I look forward to keeping in touch and following everyone's work as we all move forward and beyond the mentorship!
