For anyone who has read this far, consider mentoring someone else here (or more) ... some people don't even know where to start with their cameras and you could be the change they need in their lives. Even the smallest bit of knowledge can be passed on and you can create your mentorship in many different ways. Imagine the feeling of taking someone to their next level, paying forward the knowledge you've received and watching someone blossom with enthusiasm and accomplishment!

I would subtitle this mentorship: Posting Naked. because that is what you will do. you'll take your flat, flawed, SOOC images and post them. no pretty LR presets. no PS magic. no minor adjustments, even. just you and what you got when you shot.
you'll be revealed for who you really are.
and you'll stand naked and flinch, awaiting to hear the awful truth; that behind the magic veil of post-processing drapery, your things are downright ugly.
but then, in an unexpected twist, a different truth ends up getting revealed to you. and it is this:
your naked self is cool. really, really cool. and it is yours and yours alone. and what makes it so special, almost sacred, is that it is truly where you and your art and your audience connect. that intangible thing that speaks to people without words. it isn't the filter, or the megapixels, or the masking or the sensor, whatever. those things are important, and play a role, but that role is secondary. truly. it is hard to capture the subtle magnitude of this mindset, but it is powerful. and to know this is one thing, but to feel it and believe it is next level.
so, how do I see? I strip down and come to terms with my naked self. because once I do that, I no longer desire to self-consciously conceal, but confidently reveal.

ReplyDeleteThe only stopper for me is time. Instead I mentor as time permits on photowalks etc.
