Blurs and Unsharp Photography: Guided Play 2017 - The Final #PlusPost
Over the last 8 weeks (well, to be true, I took my time and did the program within 10 weeks ;-)), I had the honour & pleasure to participate in the mentorship program Blurs and Unsharp Photography: Guided Play 2017 that Alex Lapidus offered along with a gang of wonderful photographers within the G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers .
Ever since Alex offered this program for the first time I felt somehow drawn to this kind of photography, and at the same time I didn't quite know what to do with it. When do I want a photo to be unsharp? And why? What can I express through the unsharpness and blur that I couldn't express otherwise?
Over time, thinking about "vision" became more and more important to me. What do I want to show? What do I want the viewer to see? What emotion do I want to convey? Or, what is the "story" that I want to tell?
And thinking along that line made blur, among other things, something worth consideration. An additional tool, that adds creative and artistic means of articulation. Show the business of a crowded city street? Consider motion blur! Show the unreal softness of a dream? Think about unsharpness. Or even abstracts - why not take photographs of ideas, feelings - of subjects that have no physical quality? Reduce your imagery to lines, colours, shapes - those elements that are crucial to all photography, but that become so much more conscious when you reduce your expressive means to only them...

There's no better way to learn! And then, there's no right or wrong in this area - there's only the encouraging feedback and constructive critique from a bunch of incredibly talented and generous mentors, helpers and fellow mentees!
Without this fantastic community, a mentorship wouldn't be the same thing. So thank you very much once again from the bottom of my heart for running this fantastic program, Alex Lapidus, Heiko Mahr and everybody else in this marvellous crew of mentors and helpers! Thank you very much, Robin Griggs Wood and Ron Clifford for keeping the G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers alive and kicking! And thanks ever so much to all my fellow mentees - it's been a blast to be on this journey together with all of you!
